Quidditch lands in Limerick
Flying into the University of Limerick (UL), the European Quidditch Cup and the International Quidditch Association European Games are both planned to take place this summer. Inspired by the Harry Potter books, fans have brought the magical game to life and created a fast-paced, full contact sport played by thousands worldwide.
The European Quidditch Cup Division 1 will take place over two days on the 4th and 5th of June with an estimated 1,000 athletes representing 32 teams from Austria, Belgium, Catalonia, France, Spain, Turkey, Germany, Italy, Norway and the UK.
One month later, the International Quidditch Association European Games 2022 will take place on 22nd to 24th July with 600 to 800 athletes expected to represent over 20 countries. This marks the first time both European games have been played in the same country – a testament to the superb sporting facilities and infrastructure in Limerick.
Flag Football European Championships 2023 take place at UL
Looking ahead to 2023, the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) has announced that next year’s Flag Football European Championships will also take place in the Treaty County. Scheduled over three days, from 18th to 20th August 2023, the tournament is expected to attract 640 athletes from 16 nations.
Fast, dynamic and full of skill, the Championships is an exhilarating tournament which will see the finest national teams compete for the title of European Champions at UL next summer.
