As a world-class MICE destination, Ireland offers authentic Irish incentive programmes that can be crafted whatever the season — whether it’s the height of summer or the middle of winter.
For expert Destination Management Company Wallace Travel Group, there’s no such thing as an off season, something highlighted by their recent work with a corporate client that required an adventure-filled incentive trip in December.
The itinerary
The programme was split between Ireland’s capital city of Dublin and the Shannon region along the Wild Atlantic Way. For the west coast portion of the trip, the group stayed at the historic stately home, Adare Manor and in Dublin, they were hosted by the luxurious five star Westbury Hotel.
The incentive itinerary followed a classic program of events, with a focus on experiences that showcased Ireland as a truly unique destination. It included formal dinners of Irish cuisine, authentic entertainment, and special experiences along the west and east coast of Ireland. Sightseeing trips included Killarney, the Cliffs of Moher as well as a Musical Pub Crawl in Dublin’s City Centre.
The challenge
All issues encountered during the initial planning stages were all aided and solved by the Meet in Ireland Site Inspection Support, and later the Programme Enhancement Support. However, although the itinerary was mostly straightforward, there were a number logistical challenges during the event.
In a rare occurrence, the arrival flight was diverted from Shannon to Cork Airport, leading to a last minute challenge where the DMC needed reroute of the coaches coaching and collect the guests. Thanks to their meticulous planning, Wallace Travel Group rose to the challenge and the pick-up was carried out smoothly.
Another logistical issue arose when the group arrived in Dublin, in the midst of a farmers’ protests which took over the city centre with tractors. The strike made movement of a large group somewhat tricker — however, with some creative thinking that included the personal management of guests and the staggering of coaches, they achieved a seamless result for the client.
Feedback
The client was delighted with the very successful programme; especially with the range of outdoor activities that were achievable in December. Based on their hugely successful organisation, scheduling and issue-management, the client has asked the DMC to operate their next incentive trip to South Africa.
